En una apacible meseta de la zona italiana de Calabria, un viejo vive en armonía con la fascinante naturaleza que lo rodea. Lleva décadas perfectamente integrado en ese entorno de roca, luz, cielo, aire y relaciones humanas apacibles. Su soledad habitual, capaz de «dialogar» con los animales a los que cuida y pastorea, se ajusta amigablemente con otros hombres que viven en las localidades y llanuras cercanas. Un día llega al pueblo un amplio grupo de hombres y mujeres cargados de instrumentos de espeleología. Como si de un extraño ejército se tratase, traen consigo vehículos, tiendas de campaña y materiales con los que internarse en un agujero situado en medio de la llanura. Tras adentrarse en sus profundidades descubren que se trata de una de las cuevas más profundas del mundo. —- In a picturesque plateau in Calabria, Italy, an old man lives in harmony with nature. For decades he has lived in oneness with his surroundings of rock, light, sky, air and peaceful relations. His usual solitude, able to “speak” with the animals he shepherds and looks after, sits easily with the other people who live in the nearby countryside and villages. One day a large group of speleologists, both men and women, arrive with all their equipment and instruments. As if it were a strange army of invaders, they bring with them vehicles, tents and materials to explore a hole in the middle of the plateau. When they get inside, they discover that it is one of the deepest caves in the world.
